Brennen P. Baylor is an associate patent attorney who understands clients’ needs for both meaningful patent protection and a clear path to market new inventions, free of claims from competitors. Brennen decided to become a patent lawyer when he realized that he could continue his scientific education by immersing himself in the cutting-edge of technologies from a large range of disciplines. He harnesses his passion for problem-solving to help clients achieve their goals.

Brennen began his career in IP as a foreign filing specialist while impatiently awaiting the results of the Maryland bar exam. He has continued to oversee clients’ foreign patent portfolios and coordinate substantive prosecution with foreign patent counsel, in addition to prosecuting patent applications in the United States.

With a background in both chemistry and biotechnology, Brennen is adept at drafting and prosecuting patent applications in a wide array of technical areas, including small molecule chemistry, agricultural chemistry, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, food additives, and synthesis of nucleic acid and polypeptide molecules. Brennen uses his technical backgrounds to provide clients with meaningful, broad-spectrum patent protection.

Understanding the risks of bringing new products to markets, Brennen also assists clients in obtaining freedom-to-operate through exhaustive patent searches and detailed legal opinions regarding infringement and/or validity of existing patents. Brennen works directly with inventors to fully understand all technical aspects of clients’ new products to provide accurate and thorough analysis.

Brennen is a native of the Washington, D.C. metro area and a fan of the Washington Capitals and Nationals, who never cease to disappoint him. In his free time, he is an avid guitarist and cook.
